I was thinking about my diet last night and I was wondering if taking a laxative one day and a water pill another day would be good to "clean out the pipes." I'm thinking about it. Anybody who knows me, though, knows I'm not into gross things, so we'll see. The water pill would be no big deal, but the laxative ... ew, gross.
Last night, I ate popcorn and 2 York Peppermint Patties (the mini kind). I thought I had blown my diet, but when I entered into my Sparkpeople Nutrition Tracker, I found out that I hadn't.
If you want to check out my SparkPeople Page, the link is on the left.
I'm not looking at this as a diet or a short-term goal. This is a lifestyle change. My mind is ready to begin the journey to being more trim and healthy.

Hey Trish,
ReplyDeleteHave you researched those options? I am a bit leery about them. I think sticking to the basics-- including increasing your fiber intake *and* water intake. Both will improve your "output". Our bodies function best when we give them what they NEED. They were designed to need a certain amount of both water and fiber (amongst other things!). Doing this WILL help "clean out the pipes" ;) If you are eating "cleaner" and getting the water you need & feel "bloated" or something, it may be that your diet includes excessive sodium (which leads to water RETENTION).
I would recommend keeping your nutrition/fitness log public....I've found that it makes me more mindful of my choices!!
ARGH........I attempted to post a "comment" and it got carried away into cyberspace.
ReplyDeleteOh well!
I said I would be very hesitant about doing the laxative/diuretic thing. I don't think it is necessary or a very healthy option.
If, after trying to increase your water & fiber intake, you feel bloated........you may want to take a closer look at your sodium intake. Too much sodium leads to water RETENTION!
Another idea is to make your nutrition/fitness logs "public". Knowing someone might pop in and check on me always increases my mindfulness while I'm going about my day & making choices in the way of nutrition/fitness.
It not only "keeps me honest", it also helps me to see trends and areas I could change....as well as leave me open to the suggestion of someone else.
I think you're right. I don't want to do anything bad, and I'm sticking with this for 15 months, so it's not like the 3 lbs I might lose using those choices would really mean much over the long haul.
